I went looking for scholarships the other day, and here are a few I found.

Some of these scholarships have no GPA requirement.

Some of these scholarships require a 3.0 or higher GPA.

Over $12,000 in Scholarships for Future (or Soon to Be) Law School Students

The AARC Writing Center at TSU not only assists current students, faculty, and staff, but we also assist alumni.

For example, let’s say you graduated pre-law from TSU. You applied for law school, got in, and even received funds to help you pay.

However, you still may have several thousands to come up with, so you could get assistance with brainstorming ideas, reviewing what you have written, or creating a script for a scholarship video.

Several students before graduating and after graduating have used the services of the TSU Writing Center to prepare law school or medical school applications, as well as scholarships for law school or medical school.

Some have made appointments with several writing consultants, allowing each consultant to review the same section of an application or an essay, then combining the suggestions in their revisions.

One student would come for 2-3 hours two days a week, working on law school applications or scholarship applications, and then spend an hour afterwards having a writing consultant review what they had written, giving suggestions for revision or improvement.

In that spirit, here are over $12,000 in possible scholarships for future lawyers.

Scholarship Sweepstakes and How to Avoid Scams: $40,000 in Possible Opportunities

Scholarship Giveaways: An Experiment

Scholarship Contests

Here is one experiment. Some people say avoid scholarship giveaways or contests. And some people say apply because somebody has to win.

As long as scholarship contests or giveaways do not detract you from applying for scholarships such as the

TSU Foundation Scholarships (ongoing),

the $10,000 Aspire Higher Scholarships, D: June 10, 2026, or the

$8,000 Regions Riding Forward Scholarship, D: June 30, 2026,

then consider them.

All the scholarships with links above have been discussed in detail in previous blog posts; look at criteria to make sure you can apply for each scholarship before applying.

If you are going to enter scholarship giveaways or sweepstakes, here are a few things to keep in mind:

1. Avoid Scams

Contests should never charge anything, ask for your social security number, and never guarantee you awards.

I would suggest setting up one email for scholarships such as the $8,000 Regions Riding Forward Scholarship or those offered through websites like Bold.org https://bold.org/scholarships/  or Scholarships360.org.

Then, set up another separate email strictly for scholarship contests or giveaways.

This email strictly for scholarship contests may be spammed. Just expect it.

Make note on a Word document or Google doc of what giveaways you enter, cut and paste the link, the notification date (often found in the official rules), and any usernames and passwords you create for that website.

Be sure to check back close to the notification date. Also, check spam folders that may catch a notice if you win.

4. Scholarship Giveaways and Scholarships: An Experiment

I would like to run a controlled experiment. After reading the idea below, contact Mike Turner at mjturner@tnstate.edu if you are interested.

First, set up a separate email strictly for scholarship contests and sweepstakes. Write down the username and password (do not rely on memory).

Contact me, so we can run the experiment for 60 days or so. A small number of students will be involved.

Create a Google doc, which will include what giveaways you enter, scholarship links you cut and paste, and the notification date (often found in the official rules). You can provide a link to this document if you wish.

I will send you a curated list of scholarship giveaways and contests.

You can ask me about certain scholarship giveaways or contests to see if they are legitimate.

With a small group, we will share these finds.

Enter them, and pay attention to notification dates. Check your email and also the spam folder.

Keep track of your results and share them with me.

Where Writing can Lead to Scholarship Money

Since the TSU Writing Center is not closed during the summer, you can set up appointments with the TSU Writing Center consultants in person or online to help you brainstorm and/or review what you have written

Consider some of the following scholarships as writing projects that you can work on during your Scholarship Summer.

Over $12,000 in Scholarships to Create Writing Projects

Note: Notice that the $10,000 Hyundai Women in STEM Scholarship and the $1,500 Fifth Month Scholarship do not require a GPA. Thus, your writing sample will be the deciding factor

“Applicants must:

Must be 14 years of age or older at time of application. Must be a legal U.S. resident. Must be a resident of one of the 50 United States or the District of Columbia. This award is for U.S. students.

Submit an online written response to the question:

“May is the fifth month of the year. Write a letter to the number five explaining why five is important. Be serious or be funny. Either way, here’s a high five to you for being original.” (250 words or less)”

$1,000 Building Bridges Scholarship, D: Sept 30, 2026

“Applicants must:

  • Be currently enrolled or plan to be enrolled part-time or full-time in an accredited U.S. college or university. Vocational/technical, two-year, four-year, or graduate institutions are eligible.
  • Be a high school junior or senior, undergraduate student, or graduate student
  • Have a grade point average of 2.5 or above on a 4.0 system
  • Recipients must provide an official transcript confirming their reported GPA and proof of enrollment. No transcript or proof of enrollment is required until after students are selected as winners.

Please write an essay of 150 words or fewer describing how you are involved in your community. You may describe any community of which you are a part including school, neighborhood, ethnic, or other.”

The AARC Writing Center at Tennessee State University does not close for the summer.

You can plan to search for scholarships and apply for them all summer, helping you reach for a more money, less college debt future!
