The Bruce Lee Foundation Scholarship offers $1,000 scholarships to one or more students over the age of 16  “who understand, appreciate and exemplify Bruce Lee’s passion for education as well as his qualities of honest expression, forward thought, self-exploration, and assertiveness.

The scholarships are available to students age 16 and older who will be attending or are already attending a two-year college, four-year university, or licensed trade and vocational school in the United States.

Criteria used in evaluating applicants include, but is not limited to, involvement in extra-curricular activities/community service/work experience, future potential and knowledge of Bruce Lee.”

I have updated this link. Now, when you click on the link, you will see the most current Thurgood Marshall College Fund (TCMF) scholarships open.

These change, so be sure to check back once or twice a month.

In the past, some of the TMCF scholarships given were Lowe’s 2013 ACCESS Scholarship, MillerCoors Scholarship, NBC Universal Scholarship, Walmart First-Generation Scholarship for Incoming Freshmen, and Wells Fargo Scholarship.

If you are a student attending Tennessee State University (or a student at another designated Thurgood Marshall College Fund-Member Schools), then you may apply for scholarships available through the Thurgood Marshall College Fund.

Free Income Tax Assistance 

Many times people are reluctant to fill out the FAFSA because they have not finished filling out their income taxes.

However, the waiting game can be harsh to those who wait later.

You can get income tax assistance to help you with your income tax if you make low to moderate income (less than $57,000 in 2012).

Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee Scholarships,

Deadline: March 15, 2013

CFMT administers about 74 scholarships for the local Middle Tennessee community. Look at some of the following scholarships offered, especially at the Jerry Newson Scholarship, Drue Smith/Society of Professional Journalists Scholarship, Emmett H. Turner Scholarship, Teddy Wilburn Scholarship, The Woman’s Club of Nashville Scholarship, and John W. Work III Memorial Foundation Scholarship.

Some of these are very specific, pertaining to what high school you went to, what county you resided, and what particular university you are attending.

I know of several TSU students who have received these scholarships, especially the Teddy Wilburn Scholarship. Explore them all to see which pertains to you.

TSU Foundation Scholarships Deadline: March 22, 2013

The deadline for all TSU Foundations Scholarships is March 22, 2013; the link to start the application process for current TSU students is found on the webpage above. Also, you can see what the individual scholarships are that the TSU Foundation administers and prepare for them.

All TSU students should be starting this process and filling out the application. It takes several days and cannot be done at the last minute.

We will have one hour workshops on Wednesdays during the challenge, occurring in the Student Success Center (LRC) Computer Lab, 123.

Tiger Scholars 30 Day Scholarship Challenge

For 30 days (officially starting March 4, 2013), start the Tiger Scholars 30 Day Scholarship Challenge and apply for as many scholarships as you are qualified for– keep a record of the scholarships and amounts as you go along.

We will exclude Spring Break, so the dates for the challenge will be March 4-April 10, 2013.

We will have one hour workshops on Wednesdays during the challenge, occurring in the Student Success Center (LRC) Computer Lab, 123.

Wed, March 6, 2 pm: HOW TO APPLY FOR THE TSU FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIPS, DEADLINE: MARCH 22, 2013: Advice for filling out your FAFSA, getting help filling out your taxes, and navigating the STARS Online Scholarship Application; also, the March 15 deadline for applying to the CFMT Scholarships, several of which only TSU can apply for.

Other dates and times: March 20, Wed, 2 pm; March 27, Wed, 3 pm; and April 3, Wed, 2 pm.

Any TSU student can take part in the challenge, either by attending a workshop, coming by to visit LRC 123 and setting up a scholarship coaching session with Mr. Turner, or calling 615-963-5570 to set up a time for a scholarship coaching session.

Anybody can take part in the challenge by visiting the Tiger Scholars Facebook page and the Tiger Scholars blog.  During this 30 day period, individual scholarships, internships, and other aid information will be posted exclusively to these virtual outposts.
