These two scholarships apply to those who have a 3.0 GPA or higher.

Up to $15,000 Thurgood Marshall College Fund (TMCF)/McDonald’s Black and Positively Golden Scholarship, D: August 3, 2020

Tennessee State University is a TMCF school.

Selected criteria from webpage:

“Six scholars (6) will be selected to receive a scholarship up to $15,000 for the 2020-2021 academic school year ($7,500 for each semester), which can only be applied to verifiable costs associated with average tuition and usual fees.

Eligibility requirements:

  • Must be 18 years old or older.
  • Be enrolled full-time as a freshman, sophomore, junior or senior at TMCF Member-Schools during the 2020-2021 academic school year.
  • For Incoming Freshman – Provide proof of acceptance into or enrollment at a TMCF member-schools as an incoming freshman during the 2020-2021 academic school year.
  • Current cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher.
  • Able to demonstrate leadership abilities.
  • Able to demonstrate a financial need.
  • Be a U.S. Citizen or legal permanent resident with a valid permanent resident card or passport stamped I-551.

How to Apply

All Applicants Must:

  • Provide a copy of the 2020-2021 FAFSA Student Aid Report.
  • Provide the transcript (official or unofficial) for your most recently completed academic term-this should include your end of Fall 2019 grades and cumulative GPA.
  • For Incoming Freshman – Provide the high school transcript (official or unofficial) from your most recently completed academic term. This should include your Fall 2019 grades and a cumulative GPA.
  • Please upload a current resume.
  • Answer the following questions:
    • Essay (min.500 words)- What does attending an HBCU mean to you? Why did you choose an HBCU?
    • Please upload a video (1 -2 mins.)- What makes you Black & Positively Golden?”

$1,000 Moving Mountains Through Faith Scholarship, D: Aug 21, 2020

 This scholarship is open to full time or part time students with at least a 3.0 GPA or above, open to all majors and all classifications (undergraduate and Master students) who attend Tennessee State University or Alabama A&M University.

The student must submit a resume and a transcript.

The scholarship is $1,000 ($500 per semester).

The applicant must submit an essay on of the following essay questions:

Choose one of the following essay questions. Essays should provide enough depth to sufficiently answer the chosen essay question: 

  1. What Inspires you and Why?
  2. How do you plan to impact the world with your degree? Why?
  3. When you look at the educational system at HBCU’s, what is missing? What changes do you think are necessary?
  4. How has social media changed every day personal and business interactions?
  5. Has social media hindered authentic interactions?  Defend your position.
  6. If you could change one thing in this world, what would it be?
  7. How do you define purpose? What do you perceive your purpose to be in life?”
